Yellow/Orange Foods

Nature provides us with plentiful yellow and orange fruit and vegetable options. Among the fruits are apricots, cantaloupe, grapefruit, mango, lemon, nectarines, oranges, papayas, and pineapples. Yellow or orange vegetables include many squashes, carrots, pumpkin, yellow beets, yams, and yellow tomatoes.


Try the following to incorporate more yellow and orange foods into your meals:

  • Replace French fries with crisp, baked sweet potato slices.
  • Keep dried apricots, pineapple, or mango on hand in your glove compartment, backpack, or desk draw for a healthy ready–to–eat snack.
  • Add yams or sweet potatoes to black beans or chili for a color and texture boost.
  • Dress steamed yellow beets with a mixture of orange juice and mustard for a delicious dish.
  • Add yellow tomatoes to salsa or gazpacho to make these healthy dishes even more colorful.
