Understanding “Sugar–free” Sweeteners

If you have a sweet tooth, your healthiest option is to choose naturally sweet whole foods such as strawberries, fresh–squeezed juice, a baked apple or sweet potato, or fruit salad. Here are some healthy desserts.

 

Sugar itself is high in calories, and most alternative sweeteners are no better: Maple syrup, honey, corn syrup, and molasses are all predominantly made up of various forms of sugar.  

 

Artificial sweeteners make foods taste sweet with few or no calories. Using artificial sweeteners, however, does not allow you to train your taste buds to enjoy less sweet foods.
